LONDRES NO NATAL | CHRISTMAS IN LONDON

Helloooo, (He)artianos!

Helloooo, (He)artians!
Today I'm going to tell you all about my experience in London, which happened in early December. Just like any committed Musical Theater student, I went to audition for universities. It all went well and all, but between preparations and auditions I was still able to go around LONDON CITYY and to film/take some photos! The vlog is on my Youtube channel (Mara Kralove) but I still wanted to tell you some things with more detail...

Dia #1 // Day #1

Firstly, I arrived to the Gatwick airport and, following a rather scary interrogation on the border, I waited half an hour for a Terravision bus. Because cold and hunger really aren't a good match, I went to Marks and Spencer and bought a salad with pasta, yogurt and a super fit package of mexican tacos. If you want to save money on trips like this one, believe me, you must live on supermarket food (which I can guarantee, it's actually not that bad).

//
As soon as I arrived in Liverpool Street after a long trip lip syncing 2000's music, I charged my Oyster and headed to my beautiful hostel.

//
I stayed every night that I spent there on the Wombats London City Hostel. All I have to say is that I loved the damn hostel. As some friends of mine would say, it's an extremely communist experience, but, I really don't know why, it works really well! The cheapest rooms are mixed dorms and we pay for the usage of a bunk bed, the bathroom, a locker for our valuables and a good environment. Spending the night on a room with 7 people who had never met each other before, from various countries and with different cultures is a plea to civility and to "minding your own business". The Hostel is super clean, has a lounge at the entrance with laptops that everyone can use and a rather hipster decoration. The members of the staff are young and nice. And, in the bedroom, everyone keeps to themselves, without causing any trouble when one has to wake up at 6 a.m. to get across the whole city and get to an audition.

//
Because I couldn't be more oblivious and I never research anything about the places where I'll be, I had no idea that the hostel was located at the distance of a mere 10-min walk to the Tower Bridge. Out of luck I needed to buy an adaptar and I was walking around when I find myself directly above the Thames. And, the best of all, I was able to film the bridge as it was opening!

//
MARAA and where is Christmas between all that? aaaah it was everywheree! Little houses, stores, Christmas markets, lights, pine trees, Santa's... a true Christmas-y paradise!

Dia #2 // Day #2

//
On the next day, following an audition that lasted the whole morning and lunch time, I went to Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Street to buy some Christmas gifts. It was all gorgeous. But no one was able to move without being pushed. But feeling like tuna in a can in London is an whole other experience, don't fight me on this!

//
After too many stores and too many Lattes, I went to sleep because the next day was going to be eventful.

Dia #3 // Day #3

Messy day:
//
After this day's audition it all started to go little bit wrong, because on the metro, when I was coming back from the audition, someone slip their hand onto my jacket's pocket and decided to steal a handful of things from me, including my ID. Because I didn't bring my passport, as I wasn't supposed to need it, there I was, with no ID in the middle of London, and with a flight to catch on the next day (Clapinggggg)
Conclusion: I spent the whole day running between the police and Portugal's general consulate.
I swear to you that, after so much trouble with the RyanAir and realizing I was getting nowhere with them, the General Consulate felt like an oasis to me. Everyone spoke portuguese and was extremely nice to me.
With my wallet feeling much lighter and some pounds of patience lost I finally managed to buy a new ticket but I had to stay another day in London!
Messy day:

Dia #4 // Day #4

Recomendo a toda a gente.
//
This was the day I slept until 11 o'clock (it rarely happens) and so I missed the hostel's check-out time. Because of that, I am forever on their blacklist; anyways, I decided to walk from Westminster to Victoria before catching my new flight. Despite the cold, I loved it and I really needed the fresh air! I recommend it to everyone.
